Rita O’Hare Obituary

Irish politician, Rita O’Hare has been reported dead. She died on March 3, 2023. She was widely admired in the republican movement and by both British and Irish politicians for her role in the peace process.

She held several high positions including Sinn Fein General Secretary to the United States, Director of Publicity, and the editor of the An Phoblacht, the Sinn Fein newspaper.

“Heartbroken to announce the death of Rita O’Hare. Heartfelt condolences to Brendan and all the family. Ireland has lost a genuine patriot, Sinn Fein has lost a talented and valued comrade. We have all lost a very dear, beloved friend. Suamihneas siora da hanam,” Sinn Fein President, Mary Lou McDonald wrote.

“Saddened at the passing of Rita O’Hare, a tireless Irish Republican & powerful woman, who encouraged other women to get in the good fight & towered over any adversary in her advocacy of Irish Unity, Peace, & Justice. We will miss her determination, Belfast eloquence, and wit,” Dan Dennehy wrote.
