David Lindley’s wife Joan Darrow was the sister of his musical collaborator Chris Darrow of the band Kaleidoscope.

Joan and David Lindley had a daughter named Rosanne in 1970, and she went on to become a folk singer with the Mountain Goats and the Bright Mountain Choir in the 1990s.

The Lindleys lived in Claremont, California, in a quiet neighbourhood, in a house described by a journalist as having a “Tidal wave of instruments washed over the house. Every single room. On the floor, balanced against the wall, lying atop cabinets, and literally occupying every available inch of floor space.”
