Jason Daniel Arno was married to a nurse at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. He had a young daughter. He joined the Buffalo Fire Department three years ago.

Arno died responding to a four-alarm fire that broke out around 10 a.m. Wednesday in a three-story building on Main Street, the Buffalo Fire Department said.

It was not immediately clear exactly how the firefighter died, but Renaldo said he had been near a part of the building that collapsed.

Buffalo Mayor Byron W. Brown and Fire Commissioner William Renaldo on Thursday, March 2 2023, remembered Jason Daniel Arno as a hero and dedicated member of Buffalo Fire Department’s Engine Company 2.

Both described Arno as a hero at a news conference in City Hall. “He went into this job with his eyes wide open to serve the citizens of Buffalo. He’s to be commended for that. He’s to be honoured for that,” Renaldo said.

Mayo Byron W. Brown ordered flags on city buildings to be flown at half-staff in honour of Jason Daniel Arno
