Former Spanish footballer Pelayo Novo died at the age of 32 on February 28, 2023, after being hit by a train in his hometown of Oviedo.

Pelayo Novo was hit by a train on the Renfe line. His body was found in a worse condition and was thoroughly crushed.
Pelayo Novo was a Spanish professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Pelayo Novo appeared in 116 Segunda División matches over six seasons, scoring a total of 12 goals for Elche, Córdoba, Lugo and Albacete.

On 6 July 2012, Pelayo Novo signed a three-year contract with Elche CF of Segunda División.
Pelayo Novo made his official debut with Elche CF of Segunda División on 19 August 2012 as a substitute for Carles Gil in the final minutes of the 4–2 home win against SD Ponferradina.
On 6 October 2012, Pelayo Novo scored his first goal in the league, contributing to a 2–1 away victory over CD Mirandés. On 29 July 2014, Pelayo Novo moved to second-tier CD Lugo until 30 June. In mid-June 2017, Pelayo Novo joined Liga I’s CFR Cluj.
