Who Was Pelaya Novo? Former Albacete & Oviedo Midfielder Dead at 32

Pelayo Novo was a Spanish professional footballer who played as a midfielder.

Pelayo Novo died on 28 February 2023 at the age of 32, after he was hit by a train in his native town Oviedo.

Pelayo Novo García, known simply as Pelayo, was born on November 1, 1990, in Oviedo, Spain. Pelayo Novo appeared in 116 Segunda División matches over six seasons, scoring a total of 12 goals for Elche, Córdoba, Lugo and Albacete.

Pelayo Novo began playing with Real Oviedo where he spent his first three full seasons as a senior in the Segunda División B.

Pelayo Novo made his official debut with Elche CF of Segunda División on 19 August 2012  as a substitute for Carles Gil in the final minutes of the 4–2 home win against SD Ponferradina.

On 6 October 2012, Pelayo Novo scored his first goal in the league, contributing to a 2–1 away victory over CD Mirandés. On 31 March 2018, Pelayo Novo had permanent paralysis. Pelayo Novo retired in 2018 after the fall.
