Jennifer Lee Garfein Ashton, a physician, author, and television journalist, was born on April 23, 1969. She presently serves as the top medical correspondent for ABC News and Good Morning America in addition to serving as the network’s chief health and medical editor.

She also contributes a column to Cosmopolitan Magazine and serves as The Dr. Oz Show’s chief women’s health correspondent. At St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York, Ashton finished her residency to become a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist.
Since then, she has worked as an attending physician at the Mount Sinai Medical Center-affiliated Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in Englewood, New Jersey. Ashton also operates a private practice.

In addition to her work in medicine, Ashton has written for a number of publications, including a health blog for The Record of Bergen, New Jersey, and numerous magazine articles.
She has written three books, all of which have been published. The Body Scoop for Girls (2009) is the first, and it attempts to inform teenage girls about the subject of puberty. The second book, Your Body Lovely (2012), focuses on middle-aged women’s health and well-being challenges.

Evan Garfein, Jennifer Ashton’s brother, is the director of plastic and reconstructive surgery at Montefiore Hospital in New York City. Like Jennifer Ashton, Evan Garfein graduated from P&S in 1999 and has a degree in the same field.
Both of the siblings are accomplished professionals who have made important contributions to their respective disciplines.
