Karl Robinson, a retired English football player, and current football manager was born in Rainhill, Merseyside. Throughout his football career, Robinson played for a number of teams as a striker and then as a midfielder.

He participated in sports for a number of organizations, including Caernarfon Town, Bamber Bridge, Marine, Oswestry Town, Rhyl, Kidsgrove Athletic, Prescot Cables, St Helens Town, Alsager Town, and Warrington Town.

Robinson started coaching at the Liverpool youth academy after quitting as a player and later worked as a coach at Blackburn Rovers. On the same day that he left Charlton Athletic in 2018, he was hired as the head coach of League One team Oxford United.

In August 2019, the deal he initially signed for two and a half years was extended until 2022. Oxford came in at number 12 in his first season in charge.

Robinson, however, was charged by the Football Association in December 2019 for abusing a match official. Oxford nonetheless managed to reach the play-off final and finish fourth in the League on average points per game during the COVID-affected 2019–20 season, but they were defeated 2-1 by Wycombe Wanderers.

The next year, Oxford finished sixth in League One and made the playoffs once more, although they were defeated by Blackpool 6-3 on the road to the first round of the playoffs.

Robinson was fired by Oxford United on February 26, 2023, following an eight-game losing streak. The previous day’s 3-0 home loss to Bristol Rovers was his final game in command.

Despite his accomplishments with the club, the board believed that recent outcomes and performances called for a leadership change. Coaches Wayne Brown, Leon Blackmore-Such, and Craig Short have been handed temporary control of the group.
