Rick Famuyiwa, who was born in Inglewood, California, in June 1973, has a degree in film and television production from the University of Southern California and is a member of the Director’s Guild of America.

In addition to helming a number of well-known movies, such as The Wood (1999), Brown Sugar (2002), and Our Family Wedding, Famuyiwa also wrote the screenplays for The Wood, Brown Sugar, Talk to Me, Our Family Wedding, and Dope (2010).
Famuyiwa served as executive producer of the movie Dope. Two Black Reel Award nominations for The Wood in 2000 and an Image Award for Best Writing in a Motion Picture (Theatrical or Television) in 2008 were given to Famuyiwa as a result of his work. Also, in 2015, the Sundance Film Festival nominated him for the Grand Jury Prize for his work on the movie “Dope”.

Our Family Wedding, which starred Forest Whitaker, America Ferrera, Carlos Mencia, and Lance Gross, was directed by Rick Famuyiwa.
