Who is Shamima Begum and what did she do?

One of three young women from east London who travelled to Syria in 2015 to help the Islamic State was Ms Begum, a 23-year-old. She was 15 years old when she left the United Kingdom, and her parents are from Bangladesh. 2019 saw the revocation of her citizenship due to national security concerns.

Soon after arriving, Begum married another ISIS member; the couple had three children, all of whom regrettably died while they were quite young. She had a reputation within ISIS as a severe enforcer and was in charge of persuading recruits to support their cause.

What country is Shamima Begum in now?

It is hard to understand Begum. She has made every effort to present herself at the Syrian refugee camp as a modern, emancipated woman. Her baseball cap is the only reminder of her previous religious beliefs.

Her media appearances and whether or not she is being depicted as a celebrity have been hotly contested topics.

It would be incorrect to believe that she is a participant in a reality TV competition or that she is moping around. Instead, she acknowledges responsibility for her acts and makes an effort to justify them. The audience will ultimately choose whether they think her credible. You can learn more about her by watching The Shamima Begum Story.
