She was born on August 25, 1999. In February 2015, she and two classmates from Bethnal Green Academy in London, who later came to be known as the Bethnal Green trio, traveled to Syria.

Where is Shamima Begum now 2023? Has Shamima Begum been allowed back? Is Shamima Begum back in the UK?
Begum, now 23 years old, is still in Syria at the al-Roj camp following the fall of Isis in Baghuz by coalition forces.
She was detained once more in the camp in 2019 after former Home Secretary Sajid Javid had revoked her of her British citizenship.
The runaway, who left the UK at the age of 15 to join the terrorist organization in Syria, has repeatedly argued that she should be allowed to return home because she wants to be a “voice against radicalization.”

Begum should be able to return to the UK in order to fairly contest this judgement, the Court of Appeal decided in July 2020.
The Court of Appeal’s verdict, however, was appealed to the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, which, on February 26, 2021, rendered a unanimous decision against her and overturned the Court of Appeal’s ruling.
I want to be as British as I can, Begum stated in a 2022 interview with I filmmakers.
”The problem is at the age of being a teenager you’re very arrogant and you don’t listen to people so sometimes you really do have to learn the hard way.
“I could be used as an example, like you don’t want to end up like her.
“If it stops children making the same mistake that I made of course use me as an example.
“Tell the kids ‘don’t be like her, don’t become like her.”
All three of Begum’s children have since passed away; Jerah, the youngest, passed away in 2019, not long after the family had arrived in al-Hol.
On February 22, 2023, Begum is scheduled to learn if she is permitted to travel back to the UK.
