Richard Pelzer Mother: Who Is Catherine Pelzer?

Richard Bryan Pelzer was an American public speaker, memoirist, and novelist. He was the author of A Brother’s Journey and its sequel, A Teenager’s Journey.

Pelzer was the fourth of five sons born to Stephen Pelzer and Catherine Roerva. In 2015, he graduated from Southern New Hampshire University with a bachelor’s degree in child and adolescent development.

He was divorced and had four children.

Richard Pelzer committed suicide on September 13, 2019, after a brief, difficult struggle with his mental health.

For years, she has abused her son, David Pelzer, for unknown reasons: she slaps him, burns his arm, forces him to consume feces and vomit, and starves him for days at a time.

While Dave implies that Mother is a heavy drinker who may be depressed, he offers no hypotheses as to why she singles him out for abuse or what motivates her to continue assaulting him year after year.

Her nasty behavior appears sloppy and half-accidental at times. On other occasions, though, the narrative demonstrates that Mother’s brutality is deliberate and cunningly designed to cause David as much pain as possible.
