British Gas is owned by the United Kingdom, as the name suggests. It is a British-owned company which is the oldest energy company in the whole of United Kingdom. It was founded in 1812 as the Gas Light and Coke Company (GLCC). It changed its name to British gas in 1973. It is part of Centrica Business Solutions.
