He shared that he was resigning after he had a relationship with a former employee in his office, a situation he called “serious error in judgement,” resulting in tarnishing the image of the city.

According to the Mayor’s budget Chief, Gary Crawford, the mayor’s decision to resign should not affect the 2023 budget is far important than his actions.

This is an incredibly important budget for the City of Toronto after a challenging time, and we need his leadership. He has been a strong leader for this budget, a strong leader for this city. He needs to continue doing that. I do not want to play politics with this budget, it’s too important,” Crawford said.
