- The first valentine was sent in the 15th century. It was a poem written by a French medieval duke named Charles to his wife in 1415.
- The first heart-shaped box of chocolates was introduced in 1861 and was created by Richard Cadbury, son of Cadbury founder John Cadbury.
- Nearly 250 million roses are grown in preparation for Valentine’s Day each year
- There is an official Valentine’s Day alternative for singles known as International Quirkalone Day, which is a holiday for single people on the same date.
- In some Latin American countries, Valentine’s Day is known as “El Dia del Amor y la Amistad,” or “The Day of Love and Friendship.”
