Cacsmy Brutus, famously called Mama Cax, was an American-Haitian model and disabled rights advocate.

Born on November 20, 1989, in New York, Cax was diagnosed with osteosarcoma and lung cancer.

After an unsuccessful hip replacement surgery, her right leg was amputated and she had to opt for a prosthetic right leg.

Despite her disability, Cax made a name for herself in the modelling industry.

She obtained a master’s degrees in international relations, and even played wheelchair basketball at some point in her life.

Cax worked in the office of the Mayor of New York City and took part in runway shows organized by the White House.

As a model for JAG Models, she walked the runway for Chromat, Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty, Tommy Hilfiger, and Sephora.

At the 2018 edition of the New York Fashion Week, Cax modelled a swimsuit designed by Becca McCharen.

Cax additionally graced the cover of many high end magazines and appeared on a number of TV commercials.

Cax passed away on December 16, 2019, following series of abdominal pains and blood clots in the lung (pulmonary embolism). She was aged 30.
