Not less than 4,800 people have died in an earthquake that occured in Turkey and Syria on February 6, 2023.

The earthquake had a 7.8 magnitude, with an epicenter of “14.2 miles east of Nurdagi, in Turkey’s Gaziantep province, at a depth of 24.1 kilometers (14.9 miles)”.

The government of Turkey has deployed over 24,400 search and rescue operatives, with more being added on a daily basis.
Although the current cold weather with a temperature of about -5 C (23 F), had posed difficulty in the rescue mission, yet scores of helicopters have not stopped transporting emergency aid and food.
Other provinces that were affected include Aleppo, Latakia, Hama, Idlib and Tartous.
The last major earthquake in Turkey happened in January 2020, when an earthquake with magnitude 6.7 hit Istanbul and killed no less than 18,000 people.
