Due to video evidence showing Steve-O ingesting a condom laced with cannabis to evade detection on May 22, 2003, he was detained and imprisoned while traveling through Sweden. After paying a 45,000 kronor ($5,800 at the time) fine, he was allowed to leave on May 27, 2003.
Steve-O is well recognized for having a characteristic gravelly voice, which he at first attributed to his drug use and many feats he had performed over the years. However, he was shocked to discover after seeing a doctor that it is merely due to his habit of speaking using his throat muscles rather than his vocal cords.
