Esther Nakajjigo, an Ugandan human rights activist, had lost her life at the Arches National Park as a result of negligence on the part of the Park officials who could not secure the metal gate that killed her.

The couple drove to the park to enjoy themselves, and later left the parking lot to get ice cream when a metal traffic control gate swung into the road, and rammed into the passenger side of the rental car.

Nakajjigo’s had suffered a head injury before she died.

The National Park Service had been blamed for negligence for not maintaining the gate.

The U.S government had apologized for Nakajjigo’s death and urged national parks to adhere maintenance and safety rules.

Late Nakajjigo was involved in community projects before she died. She sponsored free reproductive health services to young women and girls, and her efforts won her the Woman Achiever Award by the United Nations Population Fund.
