Baker’s most important work in her career was the album, Rapture which sold more than eight million copies. Baker also won two Grammy Awards in recognition of her efforts for that album.

In 1991, Baker won the Grammy Awards for Best R&B Vocal Performance, Female for Composition. In 1996, she also won the Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.

Anita Baker started her career in the late 1970s with the funk band Chapter 8, Baker released her first solo album, The Songstress in 1983.
