The LA riots happened after a jury found four Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers not guilty of all charges stemming from the arrest and beating of Rodney King. This incident was captured on camera and broadcast on television.

The announcement of the verdict, which shocked the black community, prompted the L.A. riots. It is believed that the riots were to send a message to the entire country about how they were mistreated and the need for their rights to be protected. They needed the law to act equally for everyone without discrimination.
