Noah Cowan died Wednesday, January 25 2023, at the age of 55 in Los Angeles after a battle with glioblastoma multiforme that was first diagnosed in December 2021.

Noah Cowan was an experienced film festival programmer and director, curator of visual art and film-related exhibitions, film distribution executive, and journalist covering international film festivals and other events.

As artistic director of TIFF, he was in charge of the annual September festival as well as the Bell Lightbox, TIFF’s year-round home.
During his tenure, he curated exhibitions and installations, including shows of work by a wide range of artists.
He was also in charge of a sizable educational portfolio, which included the TIFF Cinematheque, the TIFF Kids International Film Festival, several significant learning programmes for students of all ages, and large-scale collaborations between film and visual arts institutions worldwide.
