Justin Schultz signed a 2-year / $6,000,000 contract with the Seattle Kraken, including $6,000,000 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $3,000,000.

He was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the second round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, but never signed with the team.

On June 30, 2012, Schultz agreed to a two-year, entry-level contract with the Oilers. Justin Schultz spent two seasons with the Oilers.

Justin Schultz was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins on February 27, 2016, with the Oilers out of playoff contention for the 2015-16 season and suffering the worst season of his professional career with 10 points in 45 games, in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

Justin Schultz spent four seasons with the Penguins, playing in a total of 292 regular season games and scoring 28 goals and 96 assists for 124 points. He also played in 61 playoff games and helped the team win the Stanley Cup in 2016.
