Hong Chau is an American actress who became famous for her supporting role in the 2017 film Downsizing, in which she played the character Ngoc Lan Tran.

Raised in New Orleans East, she attended Eleanor McMain Secondary School and Benjamin Franklin High School. She finished at Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
After high school, Chau attended Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts, where she initially studied creative writing.
She changed her major to film studies when her parents requested that she study something more practical.
As an actress, she began acting in film and television in 2006. One of her first major roles was in the television series Treme (2010–2013), which was set in New Orleans.

Chau had her first leading roles in the films Driveways and American Woman, both released at film festivals in 2019
She spent most of 2020 in a COVID-19 lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, giving birth to a daughter in November of that year.
Chau will appear in the TV series Poker Face, which will premiere in January 2023. She will also appear in Asteroid City, which will be released in June 2023.
