The story revolves around women in an isolated religious colony struggling to reconcile with their faith following a series of sexual assaults. The story follows how they decide to respond to the assaults and the patriarchal system.

The plot of Women Talking takes us back to 2010 when the women of Manitoba Colony, an isolated Mennonite colony in Bolivia, discover that the community’s men used anaesthetics to drug and rape the women and girls at night for several years.

They discovered that the community’s men have controlled their lives and faith and their disgusting activities sometimes resulted in unwanted pregnancies.

The film Women Talking stars Rooney Mara, Claire Foy, Jessie Buckley, Judith Ivey, Ben Whishaw, and Frances McDormand.

Women Talking had its world premiere at the 49th Telluride Film Festival on September 2, 2022, and was released in the United States via select cinemas on December 23, 2022.

The film received praise from critics for Polley’s screenplay and direction, the performances of the cast (particularly Foy, Buckley, and Whishaw) and the score.

At the 95th Academy Awards, Women Talking received nominations for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay. Women Talking was named one of the top ten films of 2022 by the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute.
