American comedian and tv show host, Stephen Colbert shared that he deliberately killed his wildly-popular Comedy Central character because he realized that “the country no longer savored constant divisiveness.”

“I really don’t think they want that. And that’s what I was aping. And I thought, ‘Ah, I can’t really drink that cup anymore. ‘Cause I don’t think people really want to hear it,” he said.
He also shared that he had to consider the rise of former president Trump, whose appeal he respects, even though he does not agree with his messages.

“There’s populism to Trump that I found very appealing. The party elders would like him to go away, but the people have decided that he is not going to,” he added.
What show replaced Colbert report?
Colbert report was replaced by The Nightly Show by Larry Wilmore, popular American comedian, writer, and producer. He is also known for writing quite a lot of episodes for American sitcom, The Office.
