Beyoncé is an American singer, songwriter, and dancer. Beyonce Giselle Knowles was born in Houston, Texas, on September 4, 1981, to Tina Knowles, a hairdresser and salon owner, and Mathew Knowles, a Xerox sales manager.

Her mother Tina is of Louisiana Creole descent, and Mathew is of African American descent. Solange Knowles, Beyoncé’s younger sister, is also a singer and a former Destiny’s Child backup dancer. Solange and Beyoncé were the first sisters to have number-one albums in the same year.
Tina Knowles is also a fashion designer and philanthropist who founded the brand House of Deréon and Miss Tina by Tina Knowles. Knowles received an ACE Award in 2001 for her contributions to the fashion industry.

After leaving his job as a Xerox sales manager, Mathew Knowles established himself as a record executive, businessman, and university lecturer.
He managed Destiny’s Child and also used to manage his daughters Beyoncé and Solange Knowles’ solo careers.
Mathew Knowles founded Music World Entertainment, which specialises in country, gospel, and children’s music. Knowles is also a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) and a member of its Grammy Board Committee.
