Sal Bando died on Friday, January 20, 2023, in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. According to his family, he had been battling cancer for the previous five years.

He is best known for his eleven seasons with the Oakland Athletics, where he rose to prominence as the captain of the dynasty that won three consecutive World Series championships from 1972 to 1974.

Bando finished second to teammate Vida Blue for the 1971 American League (AL) Most Valuable Player Award after helping lead the team to the first of five straight division titles

Sal Bando was the CEO of The Middleton Doll Company, a Columbus, Ohio-based conglomerate with several other businesses.

In 1979, he and Jon McGlocklin founded the firm, which was originally known as the Bando McGlocklin Capital Corporation. On May 4, 2001, the name was changed to reflect the acquisition of Lee Middleton Original Dolls Inc.
