William W. Schonely, nicknamed “The Schnoz,” was an American sports broadcaster who worked as the play-by-play announcer for the Portland Trail Blazers from their inception in 1970 until 1998.

Schonely was involved in charity organizations such as the American Heart Association, Life Flight, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and the Providence Child Center Foundation.
Schonely was a member of his church choir, a golfer, and a fan of big-band music. He had four children from his first marriage. He married his second wife, Dottie, in 1992.
