Elijah McClain was a 23-year-old African American massage therapist who was confronted by police in Aurora, Colorado while walking home from a convenience store on August 24, 2019.

Elijah McClain was born on February 25, 1996, to Sheneen McClain and LaWayne Mosley. His mother Sheneen McClain relocated her family of six from Denver to Aurora to avoid gang violence.
She stated that Elijah was home-schooled and that she recognised him as “intellectually gifted, but fiercely independent” at a young age. He taught himself to play the violin and guitar while he was still a teenager.

During his lunch breaks, he would bring his instruments to animal shelters and play for the abandoned animals, believing that music would make them feel better. His gentleness with animals, according to friends, extended to humans as well.
One of his customers remembered him as “I’ve never met a sweeter or more pure person. He was unquestionably a ray of light in a sea of darkness “.
Elijah McClain died from complications from a ketamine injection. He was injected by paramedics after he was confronted and left unconscious by police in Aurora, Colorado while walking home from a convenience store on August 24, 2019
