In 1997, Brusca confessed to the killing the Anti-Mafia magistrate Giovanni Falcone near Capaci, his wife and three bodyguards with half a tonne of explosives.

Brusca had planted the bombs on the road and detonated them as Falcone’s car drove by.

Brusca was also responsible for the murder of the boss Vincenzo Milazzo, Ignazio Salvo, and Salvatore Caravà.

Following his arrest, Brusca decided to collaborate with the police, dishing out information about the Mafia and its members, and as a result, he was granted free out-of-prison access to his family every 45 days.

In 2021, Brusca gained freedom, a decision which triggered reactions from politicians and the entire public.
