In 1984, Buscetta began to work with the authorities, and provided in-depth information about the mafia, and even testified at the 1986/87 Maxi Trial, the largest anti-Mafia trial in history.
Following the trial, the judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino were murdered, but Buscetta continued to testify to the Antimafia Commission and exposing Italian politicians who were members of the Mafia.
For fear of being killed, Buscetta’s family lived under false names before and after his death.
Buscetta had died of cancer on April 2, 2000. He was aged 71.
Buscetta was portrayed in the 2019 film The Traitor, and in the documentary Our Godfather.
