According to White, Ngannou’s new contract would have made him the “highest-paid heavyweight” fighter. The release of Francis Ngannou will pave way for Mixed Martial Artist, Jon Jones as the heavyweight title becomes vacant.

“We offered Francis a deal that would’ve made him the highest paid heavyweight in the history of the company, more than Brock Lesnar, more than anybody. We are going to release Francis Ngannou from his contract. We are giving up the right to match. He can go wherever he wants and do whatever he wants,” Dana White said.
Ngannou was the reigning champion and the last African heavyweight champion in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. His fellow Africans, Usman, and Adesanya both lost their titles in 2022 to embarrassing defeats.
