The cause of the crash, which occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday on DuPont-Steilacoom Road, about two-thirds of a mile north of the intersection with East Drive, is unknown.

The DuPont-Steilacoom Road runs parallel to JBLM and connects the cities of DuPont and Steilacoom. The road between the East Drive intersection and Steilacoom is undeveloped, heavily wooded, and tree-lined.

Military Police and Fire Emergency Services from Joint Base Lewis McChord were the first on the scene, according to a JBLM spokesperson.

Because the crash resulted in a death, the case was turned over to the United States Army’s Criminal Investigation Division, which is conducting its investigation.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with funeral expenses and assist the family. On Sunday, January 8 2023, a prayer vigil was held at the Steilacoom baseball pitch. For the family, a meal train has also been organised.
