Joyce Wieland was a Canadian experimental filmmaker and mixed-media artist who was born on June 30, 1930, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to British immigrant parents. Joyce Wieland attended Central Technical School as a teenager, where Joyce Wieland studied commercial art and graphic design despite enrolling in the school to study dress design.

Joyce Wieland married Michael Snow in 1956 after they had met while working together at the animation studio. The two were married for more than 20 years before divorcing in 1976 due to reasons not made known to the public.

After Joyce Wieland and Micahel Snow’s divorce, it is believed that Joyce Wieland did not get married again. However, it is suspected that she was involved in some romantic relationships.

Joyce Wieland maintained a studio practice in Toronto practice there until Joyce Wieland died on June 27, 1998, aged 67. Per the medical records, Wieland died from Alzheimer’s disease, a neurodegenerative disease that usually starts slowly and worsens over time.
