Does the Sinaloa Cartel still exist?

The Sinaloa Group is still Mexico’s most powerful drug cartel as of 2021. Ismael Zambada Garcia (also known as El Mayo) and Guzmán’s sons, Alfredo Guzmán Salazar, Ovidio Guzmán López, and Ivan Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar, are now in charge of the cartel following the arrest of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán.

The National Drug Intelligence Center and other sources state that the Sinaloa Cartel is principally engaged in the distribution of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, fentanyl, cannabis, and MDMA within the United States.

Several sources claimed that internal conflicts between the Guzmán and Zambada factions of the organization had arisen over the cartel’s leadership. However, more recent sources, as of November 2022, have claimed that these two sides of the cartel have recently resolved their differences and are preparing to cooperate to confront the Jalisco Cartel.
