His first capture was in 1993 when he was arrested by the Mexican Federal Police in Guatemala and extradited to Mexico to stand trial.

He was eventually sentenced to 20 years in prison, but he managed to escape in 2001 by hiding in a laundry cart.

ElChapo was on the run for over a decade before being captured again in 2014. He was arrested in a hotel in the beach resort town of Mazatlan, and authorities announced his capture on Twitter.

However, El Chapo’s time in custody was short-lived, as he managed to escape from prison once again in July 2015.

He was finally captured for a third and final time in January 2016 in the city of Los Mochis, in his home state of Sinaloa. This time, he was extradited to the United States to face trial and was eventually sentenced to life in prison.
