What has happened to Martina Navratilova?

Martina Navratilova, the tennis legend, has been diagnosed with stage one throat and breast cancer, her agent confirmed in an email to CNN on Monday.

“This double whammy is serious but still fixable,” Martina Navratilova said in a statement on the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) website. “I’m hoping for a favorable outcome. It’s going to stink for a while, but I’ll fight with all have I got.”

Martina Navratilova battled breast cancer in 2010. According to her agent, Mary Greenham, Martina Navratilova, discovered an enlarged lymph node in her neck during the WTA Finals in Fort Worth, Texas, from October 31 to November 7 2022.

She had a biopsy and was later diagnosed with stage one throat cancer. When Navratilova was having throat tests, her agent stated that a suspicious form was discovered in her breast, which was later diagnosed as cancer.

Greenham stated that both cancers were in their early stages with promising outcomes.

Navratilova had a long and successful career, winning 18 grand slam singles titles, 31 grand slam doubles titles, and 10 grand slam mixed doubles titles. She still holds the WTA Tour’s all-time title record of 167.

Martina Navratilova was scheduled to cover the Australian Open from the Tennis Channel studio, but she hopes to join in on occasion via Zoom, according to Greenham.
