Amber McLaughlin Execution: Was Amber McLaughlin Executed?

Amber McLaughlin, the first openly transgender woman was executed in the United States,  on Tuesday, January 3 2023 night.

According to the Missouri Department of Corrections, McLaughlin died at the Eastern Reception, Diagnostic, and Correctional Center in Bonne Terre at 6:51 p.m.

In 2006, she was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of Beverly Guenther, and a judge sentenced her to death after the jury couldn’t agree on a sentence.

After advocates expressed concern about her sentence, Missouri Gov. Mike Parson denied clemency on Tuesday.

As the fatal dose of pentobarbital was injected, McLaughlin spoke quietly with a spiritual adviser by her side.

Amber McLaughlin took a few deep breaths before closing her eyes. A few minutes later, she was pronounced dead.

“I am sorry for what I did,” McLaughlin said in a final, written, statement. “I am a loving and caring person.”
