Doctors believe Hamlin is in a medicated, induced coma as they wait to see how his body responds, but the quick response of medics on the scene saved his life.
Dr. Schwartz also stated that Damar’s life depends on the next 24 hours. “If he does wake up, and he is to make a full recovery, then I would expect to run the appropriate medical test to make sure he has no other cause or other problems and that he can get back to playing football,” he added.

Dorrian Glenn, Hamlin’s uncle, told CNN that his nephew is still sedated after being resuscitated twice, but that he appears to be “trending upwards in a positive way.”
Glenn said that Hamlin did sustain some damage to his lungs and he’s on a ventilator to help with his breathing and to take some of the strain off of his lungs.
He added that his nephew is “flipped over on his stomach” in the hospital to help with the blood on his lungs.
