Monson was the head coach of the Shorecrest High School girls basketball team in Shoreline, Washington, from 2010 to 2017, following two years as an assistant coach.
The team finished the period with a 125-72 record, making it the most successful in programme history. His team won the Washington state girls basketball championship in 2016, and Monson was named the state Coach of the Year.
