Queen guitarist, Brian May is now Sir May, who also has a doctorate in astrophysics and is an animal welfare advocate, received a knighthood Friday as part of the U.K annual New Year’s Honors list.

May is also an animal rights activist, campaigning against the hunting of foxes and the culling of badgers in the UK. May was knighted in the 2023 New Year Honours for services to music and charity.

It took Brian May 30 years to get his PhD. In 2007, May received his PhD in astrophysics from Imperial College, some 30 years after he began his studies.
