The Former Pope was born Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger on 16 April 1927 and died on 31 December 2022 at age 95.
Pope Benedict was the head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State from 19 April 2005 until his resignation on 28 February 2013, becoming the first pope to resign in over 600 years – since Gregory XII in 1415, and the first to do so on his own initiative since Celestine V in 1294.
Accoding to CNBC, Pope Benedict XVI was receiving a monthly pension of about $3,300.

After retiring, Pope Benedict kept out of the public eye, preferring to dedicate his time to prayer and meditation.
Upon turning 93 in September 2020, Pope Benedict XVI became the longest-living pope in church history.
As pope emeritus, Benedict retained the style of His Holiness and dressed in the papal colour of white.
He was succeeded by Francis on 13 March 2013, and he moved into the newly renovated Mater Ecclesiae Monastery in Vatican City for his retirement on 2 May 2013.
The retired Benedict XVI later made occasional public appearances alongside Francis.
