Pele Illness: What Did Pele Suffer From?

In September 2021, Pele had surgery to remove a tumour on the right side of his colon. Although the eldest daughter, Kely stated that he was doing well, he was reportedly re-admitted to intensive care a few days later, before being released on September 30, 2021, to begin chemotherapy.

On December 3, 2022, it was reported that Pele had been moved to end-of-life care and is being treated for symptoms such as pain and shortness of breath.

After 24 hours of care, on December 4, 2022, Doctors report that Pele is stabilized with no decline in health.

In December 2022, the Albert Einstein Hospital where Pele was being treated, stated that his tumour had advanced and he required “greater care related to renal and cardiac dysfunctions”.

He died at the hospital from multiple organ failure, a complication of colon cancer on December 29, 2022, at the age of 82.
