John Bird Ex Wives: Meet Ann Stockdale & Bridget Simpson

Bird was married to Ann Stockdale from 1965 to 1970. She was the daughter of Grant Stockdale, who served as the US Ambassador to Ireland from 1961 to 1962.

He then married television presenter, Bridget Simpson from 1975, until divorcing in 1978. Bird was unhappy in his private life and his career was stalled; he began drinking heavily and taking amphetamines.

John Bird later married Libby Crandon. The two lived together since 1978 and married later.

Libby Crandon is a pianist and teacher. She lived with Bird in Newdigate, Surrey unit his passing on December 24, 2022.

By the mid-1970s, he was seriously ill, paranoid, and contemplating suicide.
