While working on MADtv, Alex Borstein was asked to provide a voice for the pilot. She had not met MacFarlane or seen any of his artwork and said it was “really sight unseen”.
Alex Borstein was in a stage show in Los Angeles at the time, playing a redhead mother whose voice she based on one of her cousins.
When MacFarlane first heard the voice, he replied, “Make it a little less fucking annoying… and speed it up, or every episode will last four hours.”

Lois Griffin is the Griffin family’s mother and matriarch. Her husband, Peter, and she have three children: Meg, Chris, and Stewie, as well as the family dog, Brian.
Despite admitting to being a recovering methamphetamine addict and kleptomaniac, Lois is frequently portrayed as a stereotypical television mother and housewife. Lois has also had several affairs, one of which is said to have resulted in Chris’s conception.
