Michael Ball Parents: Meet Tony Ball, Ruth Ball

Michael Ball was born in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, to a mother of Welsh descent and an English father.

Michael Ball’s father, Tony, originally wanted to be an actor and received training as an Austin apprentice at the Longbridge plant. He eventually became the head of global sales at British Leyland and was recognized with an MBE for his services to the industry.

Michael Ball’s mother’s father was a coal miner. He has an older brother, Kevin, and a younger sister, Katherine.

Michael Ashley Ball OBE was born on June 27, 1962, in Bromsgrove, United Kingdom. Ball began his acting career by joining a youth theatre, which eventually led him to study drama at the Guildford School of Acting, graduating in 1984.

In April 2022, Michael Ball returned to the Guildford School of Acting to give a speech to the graduating postgraduates of that year and was also presented with an honorary doctorate by the University of Surrey.
