Former North Carolina-based band, The Carolina Chocolate Drops specialized in a few genres. These genres are Old-time, Americana, and Skiffle. They were also known for doing Pop music. After their assembling in 2005, the crew grew out of a succession of Sankofa Strings. The ensemble featured prominent member Dom Flemons on bones, jug, guitar, and four-string banjo. Female member, Rhiannon Giddens was also on banjo and fiddle, while Sule Greg Wilson was on bodhran, brushes, washboard, bones, tambourine, banjo, banjolin, and ukulele. Justin Robinson at the time was an occasional artiste.

One of their most remarkable albums is Leaving Eden which was released in 2012.

“Leaving Eden was an interesting album because fiddler, Justin Robinson had just left the group, and they had already decided to record with Buddy Miller and had even picked the recording dates. It was an interesting time to be coming in because they were ready to do different things with new members. So it was a trial-by-fire-period,” Hubby Jenkins said during an interview.
