Denny Doyle Cause of Death

Denny Doyle, a former major league infielder, died on December 20, 2022, according to multiple reports. He was 78 years old at the time. No cause of death has been given.

Robert Dennis Doyle, a native of Glasgow, Ky., made his major league debut with the Phillies in 1970. Before the 1974 season, he was traded to the Angels, and on June 14, 1975, he was traded to the Red Sox.

He took over second base for Doug Griffin and hit.310 in 89 games. Mr. Doyle started all ten postseason games, hitting safely in nine of them.

Doyle is best known for his role in Game Six of the World Series against the Cincinnati Reds, which featured Carlton Fisk’s dramatic twelfth-inning home run, which has become one of baseball’s most iconic highlights.

Mr. Doyle was at third base with no outs in the bottom of the ninth inning of Game 6 of the World Series when Fred Lynn hit a ball to shallow left field along the foul line.

Doyle returned to Boston for the 1976 and 1977 seasons, appearing in 343 Red Sox games while batting.

Doyle appeared in 944 MLB games between 1970 and 1977, finishing with a.250 average, 16 home runs, and 237 RBIs.
