Tom Browning was a professional baseball pitcher from the United States. He pitched for the Cincinnati Reds (1984-1994) and the Kansas City Royals during his 12-year Major League Baseball career (1995).

Tom Browning  pitched the 12th perfect game in Major League Baseball (MLB) history on Friday, September 16, 1988, blanking the Los Angeles Dodgers 1-0 at Riverfront Stadium.

Tom Browning pitched a no-hitter into the ninth inning against the San Diego Padres on June 6, 1988, at Jack Murphy Stadium. Tony Gwynn singled with one out; it was Browning’s only hit in a 12-0 victory over the Padres.

Browning was the first left-handed pitcher to throw a perfect game since Sandy Koufax in 1965. As of 2021, this perfect game was also the only one in Major League history to be pitched on artificial turf.

On December 19, 2022, Boone County, Kentucky Sheriff’s Department officers and emergency personnel responded to Browning’s home in Union, Kentucky.

When they arrived, Browning was not breathing, and resuscitation attempts were futile. At 1:13 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, he was declared dead.
