Tom Browning was a professional baseball pitcher from the United States. He pitched for the Cincinnati Reds (1984-1994) and the Kansas City Royals during his 12-year Major League Baseball career (1995).

Browning was drafted ninth overall by the Cincinnati Reds in the 1982 June draft out of Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tennessee.
That year, he led the Pioneer League in strikeouts and innings pitched, and in 1983, he went 8-1 with 101 strikeouts in 78+23 innings pitched for Class-A Tampa after learning a screwball during the Fall Instruction League.

He started 38 games in 1985 and went 20-9 with a 3.55 ERA and 155 strikeouts. He finished second in National League Rookie of the Year voting to St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Vince Coleman.
In 1988, Browning threw the 12th perfect game in MLB history – a 1-0 defeat of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He didn’t run the count to three balls in any of the at bats.
On December 19, 2022, Boone County, Kentucky Sheriff’s Department officers and emergency personnel responded to Browning’s home in Union, Kentucky.
When they arrived, Browning was not breathing, and resuscitation attempts were futile. At 1:13 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, he was declared dead.
